Oddisee has put his creative touch to the Marvin Gaye Classic " Aint That Peculiar". This joint gets high marks in my book. It's not easy to remake classics of greats like Marvin. He just released what I would consider one of the illest Jazz projects right now titled "Mercury". I got wind of this brother from songstress Valencia Robinson who is featured on this project along with artists like Carmen Rodgers, Kebbi Williams, Rasheeda Ali, Gwen Bunn, Lotuslove and Dashill. Darryl Reeves with his features and his talented band members which include Kenny Banks,Joel Powell, and Kenton Bostick, bring forth the birth of a project that is both definitive and "solid". I view this project as one that picks up where Roy Ayers Ubiquity left off back in the 70's. You will also hear the elements of straight ahead undertones on this album as well. Some of DC's dopest artists came together to release a joint called"Clock's Ticking" in celebration of the annual Bum Rush the Boards Hip Hop Chess Tournament. This collaboration was organized by DJ RBI (Ill Street Grooves/Diamond Cutterz) with assistance from Theory (PKG), and features Raheem Devaughn, yU, Laelo, Oddisee, Tabi Bonney, Noyeek the Grizzly Bear, Draus, and Choppy Choppe. The video was co-produced by Words, Beats & Life and Nomadic Wax. As Co-Director of the video, it marks DJ RBI's directorial debut.
